The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review technology will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Players are granted the ability to challenge particular calls from the official, mirroring the system already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to review other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a rally.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
